Uragami (浦上, Uragami^?) is a minor character in the Toaru Majutsu no Index series. She is a member of the Amakusa-Style Remix of Church. She wields a dress sword in battle.

EtymologyEdit

The character used for her name, is similar to Urakami, an area in the northern part of the city of Nagasaki, which was the ground zero for the atomic bombing there. It may be a reference to the Urakami Cathedral there, which was destroyed in the bombing but was later reconstructed.

The furigana for Uragami (うらがみ, Uragami^?) has her name pronounced differently than the above places.

AppearanceEdit

Her hair is tied in a ponytail and has a small smiley-face as a decorative ornament. She also sports an ahoge on top of her head.

She wears a purple shirt, a red short skirt, and white thigh-high socks.

Orsola Aquinas Rescue ArcEdit

During the rescue of Orsola Aquinas, she, along with three other Amakusa Christians, encounters Kamijou Touma, Index, and Stiyl Magnus shortly after they enter Parallel Sweets Park. After Stiyl escapes from the area with Index, the other three Amakusa members run after him while Uragami stays behind to defeat Touma. Touma begins to run away from her and eventually runs between a small gap between two shops when he trips over some tools. Once she catches up, Touma quickly grabs a toothpaste tube-like object and throws it at her. When she cuts the tube, the sword becomes covered in a substance which turns out to be grease for machinery. The grease greatly reduces the blade's sharpness, and when she swings the blade at Touma and hits his wrists, the blade doesn't cut him. Before she could react to this, he slams his entire weight into her chest and knocks her unconscious. He protects her head before she hits the ground, and lays her on the ground. Before leaving, he grabs her sword and brings it along with him so that she can't use it when she wakes up. When Tatemiya Saiji encounters Kamijou Touma, he notices the sword and asks Touma if he got it from Uragami. ^[1]

In the anime adaptation, she reappears right after Touma defeats Agnese, rushing towards him as he collapses.^[2]

La Regina del Mare Adriatico ArcEdit

In the anime adaptation, Uragami appears briefly during the Amakusa's standoff with the Agnese forces on one of the ice ships of the Queen's Fleet.^[3]

AbilitiesEdit

She is proficient with the use of a dress sword in battle and is fairly acrobatic, as shown when she attacked from a great height with no trouble. Even then, she was taken down with little trouble by Touma.

Since she is an Amakusa, she is most likely proficient in hiding magic techniques through every day objects, like healing spells.

TriviaEdit

• Ever since Itsuwa's debut in the light novels, fans of the series had speculated that Uragami and Itsuwa are the same character, and as such would justify her infatuation with Touma. As of Index II Episode 3, this speculation has been proven false.
