The Unicursal Hexagram, an important symbol of Thelema.

With the battle with Aleister Crowley beginning soon, this month's featured article involves the mystical system he devised; Thelema.

A religion, school of thought and magical format born in the early 20th century, Thelema is heavily influenced by Aleister's desire to find the proper rules and answers that the god who created the world could not in order to make the world a better place, as well as his journey to Egypt and his contact with the entity known as Aiwass. The concepts and secrets which Aleister learned and devised are recorded in Thelema's central tennet, the infamous grimoire known as the Book of the Law.

Thelema is comprised of both original concepts and adapted aspects from various sources, a mix of existing methods intended to break through known limits and reach a new stage beyond. A key concept is that of the Aeons, divisions of history named after Egyptian deities, which chart the history of mankind from the time of primitive religions to the rise of Christianity and onto a true awakening after its fall with the Aeon of Horus, a journey reflected in the Thoth Tarot. Another key concept is that of True Will.

During Aleister's time with the Golden Dawn, a number of his Thelemic concepts were considered extreme even by the cabal's standards. After severing ties with the golden cabal, Aleister continued his work on Thelema, and in the present day, it forms a key part of Aleister's Plan with Academy City.
