With all this commotion regarding GREMLIN and Othinus, let us not forget the ill-fated antagonist of one of the rare science side stories of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index.

Yakumi Hisako is an aged member of the Academy City Board of Directors who kickstarted the events of the Agitate Halation Arc, through the use of Fremea Seivelun. Manipulative and conniving, she was inputted by Kihara Yuiitsu with her own thought patterns, leading to Hisako to formulate a complex plan in becoming an AIM thought being and beyond.

She is thwarted by the efforts of the one person she thought she controlled, the benign Fremea Seivelun, who took control of her own powers, and led her directly into the path of Kamijou Touma's right hand who may have doomed her if not for the efforts of her loyal minion, Rensa. Her fate at the end of the storyline has her being punished for manipulations, already a non-human, she is put into a state where she cannot advance nor completely disappear by Fräulein Kreutune...(Learn more...)

General Superintendent of Academy City Aleister Crowley.

Known as the greatest magician in history, and for better or for worse, influenced magicians to the point that he is referred to as the master of modern Western magic. In spite of the greatness he has made for himself, he later quits magic to analyze and technology, leading to the magic side hunting him down. Eventually he is found by the Heaven Canceller and with him founds Academy City. He is Aleister Crowley, the enigmatic founder and ruler of Academy City hidden away in his ivory tower, the equally enigmatic Windowless Building.

Ever the secretive creature, Aleister Crowley rarely appears in-story, but his influence is still felt by often being mentioned by other characters, the very existence of Academy City, as well as the implication that he manipulates the events of the story for the purpose of advancing his plans. Still a powerful and knowledgeable magician in his own right, he seemingly has all the answers to many questions surrounding the series, including the truth behind Kamijou Touma and the mysterious Imagine Breaker...(Learn more...)

The Document of Constantine Arc is a story arc in Toaru Majutsu no Index that follows the aftermath of the 0930 Incident where the tensions are mounting between the the Magic side and the Science side with the effects of the invasion having been to be too widespread for either side to contain and cover up. In response the Roman Catholic Church uses the Document of Constantine to through the command of the Pope labels Academy City as the enemy of the Roman Catholics. This begins a series of large-scale protests throughout Europe centered around areas with Japanese companies, the protests began to escalate as time went on and the protests moved out to other parts of the world.

Kamijou Touma is then asked by board member Oyafune Monaka to put an end to this before tensions could escalate any further, together with Tsuchimikado Motoharu they parachute into Avignon from a plane into the city. Their infiltration dose not go unnoticed by Terra of the Left a member of God's Right Seat who is there to guard the artifact and thus Avignon becomes embroiled in a greater conflict that serves as a prelude of what is to come...(Learn more...)

GROUP is an Academy City Darkside organization. They are composed of four main field operatives:Tsuchimikado Motoharu, Accelerator, Etzali(disguised as Unabara Mitsuki), and Musujime Awaki. The organization is referred to as "a small group that exists in the underworld, working to defend the mainstream society." The four field operatives are composed of Espers and Magician blackmailed in some way to join and keep them in the organization, as such they are coerced to work together for the sake of their mission in order to protect something important to them. GROUP is referred to as a "cold-hearted" group, with the standard idea within the organization is that each member had to deal with their own problems.

Like the other Dark Side of Academy City factions their level of security and authority are the same—an unofficial unit created by putting few persons together. Their primary purpose is to take on Academy City's Dark Side, similar to ITEM, and more often than not, perform illegal acts for Academy City. GROUP was formed to take care of internal affairs of Academy City's Dark Side, and is one of the more successful organizations, dispte not seeming to have no official leader, and operate based on individual decisions. Level 6 Shift attempt on Misaka Mikoto was an attempt to induce a Level 6 Shift on the third-ranked Level 5 esper Misaka Mikoto into a becoming a Level 6 by Kihara Gensei. It later fails after the destruction of Shokuhou Misaki's Exterior, through the combined efforts of her, Shirai Kuroko, Kamijou Touma, and Sogiita Gunha.

Seemingly after the events of the suspension of the Level 6 Shift Project centering around Accelerator, with Gensei was the projects primary proponent, he then began to gather the nessary requirements of needed materials and personnel. He finally made the decision to move on his plans to take place during the Daihasei Festival, manipulating MEMBER, Misaki, and Mikoto along the way while he puts the plan into motion....(Learn more...)

Ollerus is a mysterious fellow that once had the once in about 10,000 year chance to become a Majin, but failed. Despite this he is still stated as one of the strongest characters in the series, and has to stay on the move due to being pursued by various magical organizations seeking his power and knowledge, but he has managed to elude all of them with ease with the aid of his companion Silvia the royal maid and Saint.

During the events of World War III he was seemingly aware that the one who had taken the position of Majin from him One-Eyed Othinus was preparing to make her move. He began moving himself to counter her designs to achieve her goal long before GREMLIN's appearance to on the wolrd's scene, by gathering allies to fight along side him...(Learn more...)

Acqua of the Back Arc deals primarily with the attempt of the Amakusa Christian Church's, and later Kanzaki Kaori, in try to defeat Acqua of the Back before he completes his goal.He aims in to destroy what he believes to be, the center of the chaos spreading throughout the world on the brink of war, Kamijou Touma and his mysterious right hand the Imagine Breaker. The bonds that tie Touma and his comrades a pushed to the brink at the hands of this unstoppable mercenary Saint.

Following the aftermath of the riots if a threat is sent to both the Anglican Church and Academy City, the message is a challenge of a dual from Acqua of the Back. His aim is to take Touma's life, he challenges them to protect him as best they can as a warning he sends them the brutalized remains of his former compatriot Terra of the Left who is believed to have perished in the fires of Avignon. Though as he marched off to the battlefield once again those lurking behind the scenes can not help but enjoy as the world spirals into the brink of war...(Learn more...)

Thor One of the true members of GREMLIN and one of it's top representative combat members. True to his namesake, Thor does greatly enjoys combat, he prefers it when there are no distractions, with no fear of collateral damage on bystanders. He seeks out worthy opponents to fight in battle to this end he joined GREMLIN in order to find and fight people who are above him or at least prove challenging. Despite being a normal magician he is more then capable of fighting on par with Saints.

In his first appearance he tried to recruit Kamijou Touma in effort to save Fräulein Kreutune. He did this in order for her and the pepole of Academy City not to get involved with the insuing fighting that GREMLIN and Ollerus' group would come to do over her. Showing his willingness to opposes both GREMLIN and Othinus, partly to inorder to avoid unnecessary conflict and with the opportunity to fight against Othinus. Theses actions set in motion the chaos of that consumed the events of the Ichihanaransai festival...(Learn more...)

'Norse Mythology: The body of mythology of the North Germanic people, stemming from Norse paganism around the time of the Viking Age, and continuing through into modern-day Scandinavian folklore. It follows the lives of the Norse gods — the Æsir and the Vanir — and the men whose lives they directly affected, culminating with the events of Ragnarök, where the majority of the gods and their enemies would die while fighting each other. Norse mythology is often used as a base for Magic - its prevalence in its usage as a basis for magic being second only to Christianity.

It plays a prominent role in Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, where the cabal GREMLIN is not only based on Norse Magic, but it's key members all take their names from figures from the legends and tales of Norse Mythology. The group's leader Othinus, whose name is the Latinized name of the god Odin, is later revealed to be the actual figure from Norse Mythology. Their goal was to make a replica of Lance of Gungnir in order for her to fulfill their goals and desires in return for helping her, while she merely wished to return to the phase she was originally from...(Learn more...)

Endymion: The name for the space elevator located in Academy City's 23nd School District and was set to open for public prior to the events of September 19. Following the emergency landing of Spaceplane Orion, which was referred to as Miracle 88, Academy City began construction of the space elevator in conjunction undertaken with the Orbit Portal Company. The space elevator is first seen in the Toaru Majutsu no Index: Miracle of Endymion film, and is its primary setting.

Due to the Academy City's advanced technology including unmanned mobile robot, they managed to finish the construction in only a couple of years instead of construction taking several decades and in near-total in secret with the higher-ups simply made the excuse that the large tower was simply large-scale air traffic control tower. This was due to the delicate politics that is involved with it construction, not only for effects it would have on economically and military on world wide scale, but potentially affect the balance with the magic side as well. Though this aspect proved to be worse the originally believed as Ladylee Tangleroad the president of Orbit Portal Company secretly designed it to act as a magical device for her spell to bring forth a miracle...(Learn more...)

Grimoire: Refers to a book containing knowledge about magic, they are considered to be powerful tools with esoteric knoweldge and powerful magic spells written in them. It is harmful to all who dare read its contents, although, currently, only Index is immune to the debilitating and deadly effects of the grimoires, and with her perfect memory, allows her to serve as the vessel of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. As such, Index is being hunted by Magic Cabals, and is feared by even her own church, as suspicions rise that she would rebel and become a Majin. This suspicion marks the catalyst for the events that would lead to the beginning of Toaru Majutsu no Index.

A grimoire is practically "eternal" in the sense that it cannot be destroyed by human methods and can only be sealed away. Original grimoires can apparently convert the words that are written inside their pages into magical code, which can be described as an auto-powered magic array or spell. Not unlike Saints, grimoires carry a somewhat heavy political pull, with it containing powerful spells as well as being indestructible, because of these, grimoires are sealed in their respective holding places such as libraries and cannot normally be stolen. If misused a grimoire could easly drastically change the power structure of the magic side, leading to groups taking drastic action at the mere thought of this...(Learn more...)
