Church of Orsola

The Church of Orsola under construction.

The Church of Orsola (オルソラ教会 Orusora Kyōkai?) is a church that was under construction in Japan somewhere near Academy City. The Roman Catholic Church named it after Orsola Aquinas for her contributions of traveling to three "pagan" countries to preach Christianity.[1]

Principles[]

The building was planned to be the largest church in Japan at around the size of a baseball stadium,[1] holding 250 or more people even during its construction.[2]

It was composed of seven chapels, each intended to be used to carry out one of the Seven Sacraments. The size of the respective chapels varied, as their construction and the funds expended on each differed depending on each chapel's individual importance and how often they would be used. The two largest were the "Marriage Chapel" (婚姻聖堂 Kon'in Seidō?) and the "Extreme Unction Chapel" (終油聖堂 Shūyu Seidō?), the latter being the second largest, used for funerals. Other chapels included the "Holy Order Chapel" (叙品聖堂 Johin Seidō?) and the "Confirmation Chapel" (堅信聖堂?), which although important religiously were smaller as they cannot make money, and the "Baptism Chapel" (洗礼聖堂 Senrei Seidō?).[2]

Due to the church also being a tourist attraction, the Roman Catholic Church set up a website for it that was even compatible with mobile phones.[2]

The church is apparently small enough to be accommodated by a single talisman of the Divine Protection of Ægidius.[3]

After Agnese Sanctis and her forces recovered Orsola Aquinas at Parallel Sweets Park, they retreated to the Church of Orsola. They placed a barrier around the partially constructed church and gathered inside the Marriage Chapel, torturing Orsola until Kamijou Touma arrived. Shortly thereafter Stiyl Magnus, Index, and the Amakusa Christians also arrived, and the battle between them and Agnese forces began inside the Church.[4]

The nuns bombard the church.

Shortly after the battle began, Touma ran out from the Marriage Chapel and eventually reached the Holy Order Chapel, located behind the Marriage Chapel, climbing to its second level using one of the construction ladders. His pursuers then fired magic from their weapons to collapse the unstable platform he was standing on, instead of risking climbing up after him. Before it completely collapsed, he managed to jump up to the roof - as it tipped it slanted upward, allowing him to climb higher.[2] He then fought several nuns on the roof while Tatemiya Saiji, Index, and Stiyl Magnus were fighting near the atrium between the Marriage Chapel and the Baptism Chapel.[5] After the tide turned against them, they along with Touma rushed to and locked themselves in the Fuyou Chapel.[6]

Touma confronts Agnese in the Marriage Chapel.

After the nuns broke into the Fuyou Chapel, Touma and the others escaped and split up. Touma then went to the Marriage Chapel to confront Agnese. After fighting for a bit, Agnese seemed to have the upper hand before they noticed that everything in the Church was quiet. The others arrived and revealed that they were setting up runes for Stiyl with the help of the Amakusa so he could use Innocentius. With the help of the Amakusa, they set up 4,300 rune cards to form a large picture turning the entire Church of Orsola into a giant magic circle. Once Innocentius was summoned, the battlefield located at the church became quiet with the remaining nuns not daring to attack with Innocentius there. The fighting was concluded with Touma defeating Agnese in the Marriage Chapel.[7]

The still unfinished church was heavily damaged during the battle and with Orsola having defected to the Anglican Church, it was instead dismantled.[8]
