Baka-Tsuki is a website that primarily hosts unlicensed fan translations of light novels in the Wiki format. Founded in 2006, the website claims that it has "expanded to become the largest fan-based English light novel agglomerate on the Internet". However, it also hosts translations in 25 different languages. Its aim is to promote the popularity of light novels and serve as a hub to connect readers with fan translations of East Asian light novels on the Internet. The website also has a forum, an IRC channel, and hosts original light novels and visual novel translations.

History with Toaru Majutsu no Index[]

Prior to Yen Press licensing the Toaru Majutsu no Index novels,[1] the entire novel series, including Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, the sidestories, and parody stories, were hosted in the website. The page for the Toaru Majutsu no Index was created on February 2009 and consisted mostly of English translations that were translated from the official Chinese localizations of the light novels. It is not until the user js06 joined the website on January 2011, at the height of the Toaru Majutsu no Index II anime, that the translations were from the original Japanese sources. After js06's arrival, the previously slow pace of the translations skyrocketed with a novel finishing in only a few weeks, expending the backlog of untranslated novels, and catching up to the Japanese releases of the novels as close as possible.

By September 2014, much of the original Toaru Majutsu no Index novels have been removed from the site in preparation for the Yen Press release of the series. In July 2023 the Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index translations were removed due to Yen Press licensing the series.
